The company stated that GPT-6 has been trained to determine when to generate these visual elements over plain text and how to format them effectively within a conversation.
The Intelligent UI allows ChatGPT to present information in more engaging and understandable ways. For example, a user asking about the design of a seven-speed bicycle might receive a diagram illustrating its components, with each part linked to further details. Similarly, a request for a dinner party plan could result in a menu with images and interactive elements to adjust guest numbers, thereby scaling ingredients. OpenAI explained that the format of the response will adapt to the user's query; comparisons might appear side-by-side, while explanations could utilize interactive diagrams.
This update marks a shift from ChatGPT's traditional text-heavy output to a more multimodal experience. The GPT-6 models, which underpin this new feature, are being made available to all users, with paid subscribers receiving access first. OpenAI has stated that this new visual interface is designed to be efficient and is not expected to significantly alter user usage patterns. The company has been expanding ChatGPT's capabilities beyond text, including enhancements to its voice mode and image generation features.
