Privacy Policy
What The Briefing collects, what it never does, and the choices you have.
What we collect
You can read everything on The Briefing without an account. If you do nothing else, the only data involved is anonymous usage counting described below.
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and a password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase, which stores passwords in hashed form). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google; we never see your Google password.
- Reading activity. If you are signed in, we store the articles you save, your reading history, your streak, and the interests you pick, so those features work across devices.
- Preferences in your browser. Your theme choice and onboarding answers are kept in your browser's local storage. The onboarding questions are optional and are used only to personalize your feed.
- Anonymous usage counts. We run our own small analytics (hosted on Netlify) that counts page views and feature use. It sets no advertising identifiers and builds no cross-site profile.
What we never do
The Briefing shows no ads, sells no data, and embeds no third-party advertising trackers. We do not buy data about you from anyone, and we do not combine your data with outside sources.
Where your data lives
Account and reading data is stored with Supabase. The site and its analytics run on Netlify. Preferences stay in your own browser. We share data with no one else, except if the law requires it.
Your choices
- Read signed out. Nothing about you is stored beyond anonymous counts.
- Clear your browser's site data to remove local preferences at any time.
- To request deletion of your account and the data attached to it, email briefingatlas@gmail.com from the account's address. We will delete it and confirm.
Age requirement
The Briefing is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email briefingatlas@gmail.com and we will delete the account and its data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date above changes with it. Continued use after a change means the new version applies.
