Perplexity announced on June 3rd that its Personal Computer tool is now available for Windows operating systems. This development extends Perplexity's AI agent capabilities to over one billion Windows devices globally. The tool allows personal computers to function as locally-run AI systems, capable of interacting with local files and applications.
The Personal Computer tool operates as a "general-purpose digital worker." It can execute tasks by accessing local files and native applications on a user's machine. Previously, Perplexity launched a version of this tool for macOS in April. The Windows version integrates with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. These integrations were first introduced in May for the Mac version and have now been extended to Windows.
Perplexity's Personal Computer leverages a multi-model orchestration system. This system assigns a team of AI agents to carry out instructions provided by a single user query. The output generated by these agents is grounded in Perplexity's AI, which provides cited and reliable data. The tool can also operate web-based systems through the Comet browser to perform actions such as filling out forms, booking appointments, and scheduling meetings.
A key feature of Personal Computer for Windows is its ability to act directly on local files. This means that tasks such as drafting documents, performing analysis, and managing files can occur directly on the Windows machine where the work is generated. The system also offers remote execution capabilities, allowing users to start a task on a mobile device and finish it on their Windows computer. Perplexity has emphasized user control and security, stating that the Personal Computer tool alerts users before performing sensitive actions like deleting files or sending emails. The Personal Computer for Windows is initially rolling out to paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers who have joined a waitlist. This release follows Perplexity's earlier introduction of its "Computer" agent platform in February 2026, which was initially cloud-based. The Personal Computer platform, which integrates local machine access, was first launched for Mac in March 2026.
