OpenAI introduced a suite of new products and updates at its 2026 DevDay conference, including an AI agent named Dots, the GPT-6.1 Sol model, and a premium ChatGPT Pro 500 subscription tier. The company aims to expand AI's utility in professional and personal workflows with these advancements.
The Dots AI agent is designed as a persistent, always-on assistant that can perform tasks on behalf of users. Powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, Dots possess their own cloud computing resources and can integrate with over 4,000 applications through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem. These agents are intended to learn user preferences and work continuously, even when the user is not actively engaged. OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman stated during the keynote that Dots will be accessible via ChatGPT and will eventually extend to other messaging platforms and phone calls. Initially, Dots will be available to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise plan subscribers in select markets.
The new GPT-6.1 Sol model is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to OpenAI's most advanced GPT-6 Astra model. OpenAI reports that GPT-6.1 Sol delivers performance comparable to Astra in areas such as coding, computer use, and professional tasks, but at a significantly lower price point, approximately one-fifth of Astra's standard token costs. This model is available through the OpenAI API and for users of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. OpenAI also introduced an "Ultrafast" inference tier, which provides accelerated token generation for GPT-6 Astra and will soon be available for GPT-6.1 Sol. This premium tier offers up to 8 times faster token generation in Codex and 6 times faster in the API, reaching speeds of up to 300 tokens per second.
In addition to the new agent and model, OpenAI expanded its ChatGPT subscription offerings with the introduction of the ChatGPT Pro 500 plan. This new tier is priced at $500 per month and includes access to the Ultrafast speed tier for GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex, along with the highest usage allowances among the Pro plans. The company also announced the reopening of its $200 per month Pro 200 plan, though new subscriptions will feature reduced usage allowances compared to previous grandfathered plans. These updates are part of a broader effort by OpenAI to provide more versatile and accessible AI tools for both individual users and enterprises.
