Meta Platforms Inc. has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence coding startup founded in 2024 by Chief Executive Charlie Holtz and Chief Technology Officer Jackson de Campos. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Conductor's platform allows software engineers to run several AI coding agents in parallel, each operating within an isolated copy of a codebase. Developers can then review, create pull requests for, and merge the work produced by these agents.

Conductor's technology focuses on the orchestration of AI agents, rather than simply offering a code-generating assistant. The platform enables developers to assign tasks, monitor progress, and evaluate the results from multiple agents. Before the acquisition, Meta engineers were already using Conductor's products, with Meta being named among companies with dozens of engineers on the platform when Conductor announced its $22 million Series A funding round in March 2026.

Following the acquisition, Conductor's cloud service, Conductor Cloud, will cease operations on November 20, 2026, with user data scheduled for deletion thereafter. The company's local Mac application will continue to function with core features and receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027. Conductor confirmed its integration into Meta on its website, and Charlie Holtz announced the news on X, stating that the team has "big, crazy plans for the next interface." Holtz will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs, working with Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang and head of product Nat Friedman.

This acquisition places Meta in a competitive landscape among AI companies seeking to develop the tools engineers use for software creation and management. On the same day, OpenAI announced its plans to acquire Pierre Computer, a developer tools startup. OpenAI had previously announced intentions to acquire Ona in June, a startup specializing in cloud-based coding environments and agent orchestration. These moves suggest a broader industry trend towards integrating advanced AI capabilities into software development workflows, with a particular emphasis on agent orchestration and collaborative coding environments.

Meta's own recent product releases have highlighted coding as a strength. In October, Meta released Muse Spark Open, an open-weights version of its Muse Spark model designed for coding and extended agent tasks. Its more advanced Muse Wonder models are accessible within Meta's proprietary Muse Code terminal and application programming interface. The Conductor acquisition is expected to bolster Meta's efforts in building its next generation of AI coding tools, leveraging Conductor's expertise in rapid product development and developer experience.
