Apple has unveiled its latest MacBook Pro lineup, featuring the company's first-ever OLED touchscreen displays for its laptops. The new models, available in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations, incorporate "PROLED XDR" tandem OLED technology, offering improved contrast ratios and brightness compared to previous mini-LED screens. This display upgrade is accompanied by a redesign that makes the laptops thinner and lighter than their predecessors.

The incorporation of touch input marks a significant departure for Apple's MacBooks, a feature long absent from the platform. The display technology promises up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The new models also feature a Dynamic Island, previously seen on iPhones, for system alerts and background activities. Additionally, the glowing Apple logo on the lid returns to the MacBook Pro design.

Under the hood, these new MacBook Pros are powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the same processors introduced in March. This is notable as Apple recently introduced its M6 chip in other products, including a less expensive 14-inch MacBook Pro and the new iMac. Configurations can be equipped with up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage.

The pricing reflects the premium nature of the new features. The 14-inch model starts at $2,899, the highest starting price for any MacBook Pro at launch. The 16-inch model begins at $3,399. Pre-orders opened on October 28, with shipments scheduled to begin on November 6. Apple will continue to offer its non-touch, mini-LED display MacBook Pro models.
